Wetland Specialists
Drew Wanke came to Wildlife Specialists after traveling for a year as an educator throughout Canada and the U.S. teaching people of all ages about sustainability and how to live “greener” more environmentally conscious lifestyles. Prior to that Drew worked for an environmental consulting firm in central New York where he conducted surveys for rare, threatened, and endangered plants, animals, and significant natural communities. Drew has worked on a wide variety of survey projects including Indiana and Small-footed Bats, White-tailed Deer, Henslow’s Sparrow, Upland Sandpipers, Bald Eagles, Northern Cricket Frogs, butterflies and plants. He has conducted several multi-year, town-wide natural resource inventories in order to document environmentally sensitive areas for planning and zoning development projects. In addition, Drew has been trained in the materials designated in the Army Corps of Engineers’ Wetland Delineator Certification Program.
Drew received a Bachelor of Science degree in Wildlife Science and Conservation Biology from the State University of New York Environmental Science and Forestry. Drew is a certified Qualified Indiana Bat Surveyor and has volunteered with the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation and the Pennsylvania Game Commission to conduct winter mine and cave hibernaculum surveys for bats. Drew has conducted all types of bat surveys including summer mist-netting, fall swarming, and spring emergence surveys.
