John Mayersky

John Mayersky obtained his Bachelor's of Science degree at Delaware Valley University. While earning his degree he assisted in various wildlife surveys, which include: diamondback terrapin survival, saw-whet owl banding, monarch butterfly tagging, captive Allegheny woodrat study, and songbird banding.  As a study abroad course, John traveled to South Africa and Mozambique as a research assistant. He was involved with insect, bird, and large mammal surveys in South Africa, and fish and coral surveys in Mozambique. He also worked with us in 2012 as a biological technician, aiding in bat surveys, as well as rare plant and timber rattlesnake surveys.

After earning his Bachelor's degree, John continued to work with bats across the eastern United States, working with Copperhead Environmental Consulting in Kentucky and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission. During this time John became a Qualified Indiana Bat Surveyor (QIBS).   He has worked with all native bat species of Pennsylvania, in addition to: the federally endangered gray bat and Virginia big-eared bat, the endemic Florida bonneted bat (Wagner's mastiff bat), Rafinesque's big-eared bat, evening bat, southeastern bat, and Brazilian free-tailed bat. With these bats, John has conducted spring migration, summer netting and tracking, and winter hibernacula surveys throughout the eastern U.S.
